For her son Milo’s 12th birthday, Ms. Ahne chose a celebration with deeper meaning—one that reflected gratitude for the blessings she had received. Together with Milo, his friends, and her loved ones, she returned to Chummy Chum for an outreach at Safe Haven Community Center and Children’s Home. In this outreach, the two groups extended their support to children and families affected by a recent fire. With the help of volunteers, the event was held at the Pearl Multi-Functional Hall, where booths were set up with snacks, toys, and special giveaways as children were registered and welcomed. In line with this mission, the Chummy Chum team recently visited young patients at the Pediatric Ward of Rizal Medical Center in Pasig City. The visit proved especially meaningful as it coincided with the hospital’s week-long celebration honoring the hard work and dedication of social workers who tirelessly support patients most in need. In preparation for the outreach, the team began their day early—cooking lugaw (rice porridge), assembling loot bags, and organizing toys, diapers, balloons, and other treats. Thankful for the blessing of another year in Nathan’s life, she wished to bring happiness to children who endure physical, emotional, and mental challenges due to their illnesses. Ms. Rose and her family personally prepared food packs and gifts for all the children and hosted a program filled with fun parlor games. Early one morning, the Chummy Chum team visited children living in squatter areas affected by the recent large fire on NIA Road, Barangay Pinyahan, Quezon City. By 4 AM, the team had already begun preparing a favorite snack—ube-flavored ginatang mais (corn in coconut milk)—known for its creamy and comforting taste. Upon arrival, the team saw the extent of the devastation. According to the QC NDRRMC, around 6,000 individuals were affected by the fire. Many families were staying along the roadside after evacuation centers reached full capacity. Since most aid had been directed to the evacuation center, Chummy Chum chose to hold its charity activity in an area that had not yet received assistance. While many donors provided basic necessities such as rice, canned goods, noodles, and clean water, Chummy Chum focused on lifting the spirits of the children—many of whom were deeply affected by the disaster. Through a simple children’s party, the team aimed to bring comfort, joy, and a sense of care to the young survivors. The event featured games, prizes, and lively activities that the children enthusiastically joined.
