Bringing Joy to Young Patients: A Moment of Hope in Pasig General Hospital

10 April 2026

Pasig City General Hospital, OPD Pedia

Children from underserved families often endure not only scarcity but also the added burden of illness without the means to ease their pain. Public hospitals remain a vital refuge, providing care for those who need it most.

In many outpatient pediatric departments, the atmosphere can feel heavy—marked by long waits, discomfort, and the quiet weight of hardship. For many of these children, opportunities for joy and distraction are rare.

Yet, moments of light can still break through.

During one visit, Chummy Chum transformed the pediatric outpatient area into a space filled with laughter and energy. Children waiting for their check-ups paused to play, dance, and participate in simple games suited to their conditions. For a brief time, they were not just patients—they were children again: seen, valued, and cared for.

What would have been a routine day of medical assessments became something more meaningful. The experience showed that caring for one’s health can also be joyful, and that even small acts of kindness can lift spirits and restore a sense of hope.

The children expressed heartfelt gratitude for the visit—simple, yet deeply meaningful.

This initiative was made possible with the support of SM City Sucat, Zamony Ventures Corporation, and generous donors of pre-loved toys.
