Sharing Smiles, Saving Lives: A Joyful Day with Chummy Chum and FILA

Taft Avenue, Manila

It was one of the most challenging yet rewarding days for the Chummy Chum Foundation, as it held back-to-back charity activities in partnership with the Filipino-Indian Ladies Association (FILA).

The Chummy Chum team divided into two groups to support both activities, moving between venues (OPD Pedia on the 2F and Atrium on the GF) about 50 meters apart yet united by a shared purpose—bringing hope to those in need.

While FILA generously shared four sets of Infant Incubators with Phototherapy Lights with the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), joy was spreading simultaneously at the OPD Pediatrics through the Smile for Me Little One Program. Children were treated to food packs, gift bags, games, and laughter led by a lively clown and the ever-loved Chummy Chum mascot. Members of FILA’s Board of Directors personally joined the children’s celebration, sharing heartfelt moments that were both emotional and uplifting.

Later in the morning, the official turnover ceremony of the medical equipment took place. It was hosted by Dr. Joannah Boralbo, Chief Resident for Patient Services, and joined by Dr. Jonathan Cu, Vice Chair for Inpatient Services; Dr. Esterlita Uy, Division Chief of Newborn Medicine; and Dr. Rhyss Alcachupas, Chief Fellow of the same division. Representing FILA, President Ms. Simran Uttamchandani shared that the incubators were made possible through months of dedicated fundraising, with the proceeds committed to providing life-saving support to underserved newborns. Messages of gratitude followed from the hospital, highlighting the urgent medical and nutritional needs of infants from low-income families.

The program concluded with the signing of the Deed of Donation, photo opportunities with the Chummy Chum mascot, and a brief moment of shared camaraderie among participants.

Though brief, the day’s events were deeply meaningful—an inspiring moment for FILA, a blessing for the hospital and its patients, and another joyful milestone for the Chummy Chum Foundation.

Heartfelt thanks go to FILA for their generosity, to the dedicated doctors and hospital staff for their support, and to the Chummy Chum team and volunteers who continue to serve with love, compassion, and purpose.
