The Chummy Chum team recently returned to the Pediatric Outpatient Department (OPD) of a government hospital in Manila to surprise children undergoing medical check-ups and treatment. Many of the young patients came from underserved families, making their illnesses an added challenge for both the children and their parents.
With a mission to bring comfort and encouragement, the team transformed a corner of the OPD into a cheerful space filled with treats, souvenirs, and special gifts. As fresh popcorn filled the air with its familiar aroma, hospital staff instantly knew that Chummy Chum had arrived.
The highlight of the visit came when Chummy Chum, the beloved mascot, appeared and warmly greeted the children – he walked from along the queue of patients outside the hospital through the lobby up until the OPD Pedia.
Smiles quickly replaced tears, and even some youngsters who had just undergone dental procedures forgot their fears as they gathered around for hugs, laughter, and photos.
While a hug may seem simple, for a child facing illness, it can become a lasting reminder that they are seen, cared for, and not alone in their journey.
Each child received treats and special gifts, bringing joy and hope to their day. The hospital administration expressed its gratitude to the Chummy Chum team for brightening the experience of their young patients.
Special thanks to SM City Sucat, Zamony Venture Corporation, WeCarePH, and all generous donors who shared pre-loved toys to help make this meaningful visit possible.
