Despite Typhoon Crising’s devastation—flooded roads, strong winds, and a 5-ft water surge—hope managed to shine through. The children of the Tenement had been told a surprise was coming, and even the storm couldn't dampen their excitement: Chummy Chum was on the way.
The Chummy Chum team, in close coordination with WeCarePH and the Sangguniang Kabataan ng Lungsod, closely monitored the weather. Though unsure if they could push through, a brief clearing at 6:00 AM gave them their sign—it was time to go.
Upon their arrival at the Function Hall Bldg 3, it had been transformed into a magical space in no time. Booths offered delicious food, sweet treats, toys, and souvenirs. The smell of popcorn and cotton candy filled the air, and colorful balloons brought joy to every corner.
The program began with a prayer led by the Youth Council, followed by lively parlor games. Children laughed and played, enjoying their snacks while forgetting the storm outside.
Then came the moment everyone waited for—Chummy Chum’s entrance. Dancing his way into the hall, he invited the kids to join in. It was their first time meeting him, but he instantly won their hearts.
The children feasted, smiled, and laughed—pure happiness on display. Each one received a bag of gifts and souvenirs, not just as beneficiaries, but as cherished guests.
Thanks to every volunteer and partner who braved the weather, this day became an unforgettable memory. The children felt seen, loved, and celebrated—proof that joy can shine even on the stormiest days.
