Chummy Chum and Dra. Benitez Bring Joy to Young Cancer Warriors

Cancer Patient, PGH

A few months ago, Dra. Benitez confirmed her collaboration with Chummy Chum for a charity event at the Cancer Institute of PGH. That special day finally arrived.

The Chummy Chum team was up before dawn—on the road by 5:00 AM to pick up meals from a favorite kids’ food chain—and reached the venue by 7:00 AM.

They quickly set up a cheerful booth filled with treats, gifts, souvenirs, and a popcorn machine ready to delight. Dra. Benitez added food packs, gifts, and colorful balloons, making the setup even more festive.

Soon, children from the OPD Hemaward began arriving, gently assisted by parents and nurses, ensuring their IV lines remained secure. Though movement was limited due to their delicate condition, the excitement in the air was unmistakable.

Chummy Chum, a familiar friend at the institute, welcomed both new and returning young patients. The team shared a brief talk about the foundation’s mission: to bring joy to children who need it most—no expectations, just love.

This wasn’t a grand party, but a simple, heartfelt visit over food, gifts, and smiles. Just seeing Chummy Chum brought hope and a sense of normalcy, even for a moment. Despite the heat, the mascot stayed longer than usual, knowing how much the children treasured his presence.

This is what Chummy Chum’s Charity of Love stands for—giving joy, creating memories, and filling young hearts with love, one visit at a time.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Benitez for helping make this meaningful day a success. Today, we honor and relive the memory of your uncle—may he rest in peace after his courageous battle with cancer.
