Chummy Chum Brings Comfort and Joy to Children Affected by Tondo Fire

24 April 2025

Brgy. Moriones, Tondo Manila

Starting at 4 a.m., the Chummy Chum team worked tirelessly to prepare meals of steamed rice and caldereta, packed into convenient paper bowls with lids. Chummy Chum reached out to the poorest children impacted by the devastating house fire in one of the most impoverished communities in Manila.

Along with the freshly cooked food, the team brought 100 juice boxes, loot bags, toys, balloons, and special gifts such as coloring books, Chummy Chum pillows, SM Bears of Joy, and other items to bring happiness to the children.

Despite the challenging conditions—the sweltering heat and the devastation in the area—the team set up the Chummy Chum booth, filled with delicious treats and thoughtful gifts. The children sensed something good was about to happen, their excitement building.

Once everything was in place, the team gave a brief introduction about Chummy Chum’s mission and vision. This was the cue for the mascot to make his grand entrance. The children’s faces lit up with joy as they jumped and cheered, momentarily forgetting the trauma of the previous night. They danced and shared precious moments with Chummy Chum, eagerly hugging him.

The morning heat was relentless, and the work was exhausting for everyone involved—but it was all worth it when the smiles on the children's faces told their own stories of joy and hope.

Each child received meal packs, yummy treats, and special gifts, ensuring that even in the aftermath of tragedy, there was a glimmer of happiness.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the volunteers, especially to the SM Sucat Store for their generous donation of the Bears of Joy stuffed toys.
