San Juan Medical Center
On a quiet Sunday at San Juan Medical Center, a different kind of healing was taking place.
For children born with cleft lip and palate—from underprivileged families—the day marked a step toward life-changing surgery. Fear and uncertainty lingered in the air as they prepared for the procedures ahead.
But this was exactly why the collaboration between the MEAD Foundation, OHRA, and Chummy Chum Foundation mattered.
United by a shared mission to help children face life’s pain and challenges with courage, the partners created a moment where fear could give way to something lighter—something joyful.
As the program began, the children listened to stories, their attention slowly shifting from worry to wonder. Then came laughter, music, and movement as Chummy Chum stepped in, turning the room into a space filled with excitement. For a while, the thought of surgery faded, replaced by smiles, dancing, and playful anticipation.
One by one, the children lined up, eagerly choosing toys—small treasures that carried big comfort.
Among those present were delegates from Australia representing OHRA and the MEAD Foundation. They witnessed not just an outreach, but a transformation—how a simple moment of joy could ease fear, lift spirits, and reshape how these children saw the future. What once felt frightening now held a sense of hope.
In that shared space, courage quietly grew.
With the support of generous partners—SM City Sucat, Zamony Venture Corporation, Ms. Eunice for the loot bags, and donors of pre-loved toys—the day became more than an event. It became a reminder that even in the face of pain, joy can lead the way forward.
