Spreading Smiles: Chummy Chum Brings Joy and Hope to Little Warriors

17 October 2025

OPD Pedia, San Lorenzo Ruiz General Hospital

The Chummy Chum Foundation was warmly welcomed at the newly opened hospital building by Medical Director Dr. Marilou and the Head Nurse. Their smiles reflected the deep gratitude they held for the foundation’s continued mission—to bring joy and lightness to the hearts of young patients in the Outpatient Department (OPD).

Upon arrival, the Chummy Chum team was courteously guided by the hospital guard to the third floor, where hopeful little faces lined up for their medical checkups. Some wore expressions of worry, others of fatigue—but those quickly faded. As the team began setting up their cheerful booth filled with hot meals, sweet treats, colorful toys, and surprise giveaways, the air shifted. Children lit up with excitement, and parents were visibly moved when they learned everything was being given freely—including the much-loved popcorn.

While the scent of freshly popped corn filled the room, the team hosted light parlor games, specially tailored to the children's medical needs and the limited space. Laughter echoed through the OPD. For a few precious moments, these young fighters forgot their pain. They weren’t patients—they were simply kids having fun.

Then came the highlight of the day: Chummy Chum himself. As the friendly mascot made his entrance, children rushed toward him with delight. Unlike the usual mascot hesitations some children might have, Chummy Chum was instantly loved. Despite his oversized figure, he radiated a kind of magic—pure joy that connected heart to heart. Though he couldn’t dance this time (as he so often does), he stayed close, showering the children with affection and presence, making sure each one felt special.

Each child received a warm meal, a thoughtful gift, a toy, and keepsake souvenirs. But perhaps the most lasting gift was the photo they took with Chummy Chum—a snapshot of joy, a reminder that even in the hardest moments, there is always room for hope and happiness.

Because when a child smiles—even in sickness—their spirit begins to heal. And that spark of happiness can carry them forward, reminding them: everything will be okay.
