When the Sun Broke Through: Bringing Joy to Flood-Affected Children
27 August 2026
Brgy. Talayan, Quezon City
Children living in flood-affected communities remain among the top priorities of Chummy Chum Foundation Philippines, Inc. Their difficult circumstances make every outreach visit especially meaningful—not only because of the gifts they receive, but also because of the joy, comfort, and hope shared with them.
The Chummy Chum team left Parañaque early that Thursday under beautiful weather. However, upon reaching Quezon City, heavy rain began to fall. Then, just as the team arrived at the venue, the rain stopped and the sun shone brightly—a beautiful welcome for the day’s mission.
Barangay Talayan is a community located beside a creek and was severely affected by flooding during the recent storm. Upon arrival, the team was warmly welcomed by the barangay tanods, who immediately contacted the purok leaders and assisted in gathering and registering the children.
While preparations were underway, the children participated in simple games to keep them entertained and excited. The program continued with meaningful stories and inspiring words from the team, reminding the children that they are seen, loved, and cared for.
The most-awaited moment came when Chummy Chum finally appeared. The children were delighted—not only by the gifts prepared for them, but especially by the opportunity to meet, dance, and share happy moments with their beloved mascot.
Every child went home carrying more than just a gift. Each one left with a joyful smile and a treasured memory from a Thursday filled with kindness, laughter, and hope.
Chummy Chum Foundation is deeply grateful for the opportunity to bring sunshine into the lives of these wonderful children, especially after the difficulties they experienced during the flood.
Special thanks to: SM City Sucat, Zamony Venture Corporation, GTVL, an all the generous donors of pre-loved toys. Their kindness and support helped make this meaningful outreach possible.
